“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you plans to give you hope and a future” Jeremiah 29 VS: 11
The thought of doing a reading, preaching, or sharing the gospel, for some, can be a scary thought, but we are all called to be disciples and evangelists and to share the Word. Imagine though being asked to come to a church and to preach a sermon on a given passage, which someone in the Church would read before you spoke. Imagine then that person getting up and reading several verses that were not from the passage around which you had based your sermon! This happened to me recently and I thought, ‘Lord what do I do’; I did all I could, relied on Him. God, in His great mercy, gives you the strength to carry on regardless of the difficulty or interruption in the plans you had, in this case for preaching, but like others you have to improvise.
In this new role of Executive Director for OMS, I do the same, rely on Him. I am reminded that each and every day of our lives are in and directed by God’s hands. He has plans for us; all we need to do is be obedient. Six months ago I could only dream that He would appoint me to this role. The role is already proving exciting, challenging and blessed and it certainly can take you beyond your experience or comfort zones. That though, is what our God is about; He wants us to go beyond our wildest expectations or our perceived limitations. He wants us to give of our best and trust Him, to reach out for His guidance and provision.
Our God is the one and only God of whom we should shout, glorify and praise. He will see us through each and every day, each difficulty or concern. As I waited patiently to get up in that Church and preach the sermon I had prepared, He gave me the strength to preach. He gave me the altered sentences and words to guide the congregation and dovetail His message as they listened. When you think that things are not working out, or they are not as they should be, remember God is in control of everything. The wrong sermon, the wrong reading, or just perhaps my wrong perception, in God’s plan He may have had someone there who needed to hear both lessons, so that they could hear Him speak, to them.
OMS had been looking to fill the post of Executive Director for a long time; I, similarly, had been looking for such a position for a long time. It is in God’s providence and purposes that we are together. God knows the plans He has for us, and you; let Him have the Glory in all we do for His Kingdom.
