Report on the OMS Annual Conference

The annual Northern Ireland OMS Conference was again held at the Glenada Conference Centre in Newcastle Co. Down from 21st – 23rd February 2014.  Glenada is set, as the song writer put it, “where the mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea”!  The facilities were excellent, with a good sized conference room and a lovely dining room overlooking the sea. The food, as usual, was excellent with many different needs catered for.
There were almost one hundred people booked in for the weekend, with more coming for the day on Saturday. The numbers included some missionary families who are home on furlough, along with a number of representatives from the Republic of Ireland.  Some new ‘OMS babies’; Lydia (Kelly), Sam (Edler) and Charlie were also present and were introduced to their wider OMS family.
Reports were heard from various countries including Ecuador, Mozambique, East Africa, Colombia, Republic of Ireland, Romania, Belgium and Mexico.  It is encouraging to see how God is working in the various countries, and how souls are being saved and lives changed, as the Good News of the Gospel is preached and lived out in the lives of those working there.
The main speaker for the weekend was Rev Doug Atherton, OMS Minister at Large. He spoke on the `Propaganda Value of a Holy Life’ as taken from 1 Peter.  This was in four parts:-  The Purposeful Life, The Pilgrim Life, The Priestly Life and The Prayerful Life. He spoke about what holiness is – a doctrine to be preached, an experience to be enjoyed and a life to be lived, and encouraged those present to “Be holy as I am holy”
The Conference ended with a communion service on Sunday morning.
As well as a real sense of family, there was also a very real sense of the presence of God in all the meetings. Everyone went home both challenged and blessed.
