“I press on towards the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward.” Philippians 3 v 14

Everyone is talking about the Olympics in London this summer. So the main focus is on who will win the key events and become world famous. From all over the world athletes have being preparing themselves for this one opportunity to achieve their dream.

They have allowed nothing to keep them from this goal: wrong food, careless attitudes, too much weight or excess clothing. They have shown great determination and perseverance. They have disciplined their bodies and their lives so that they will be in perfect condition for a couple of weeks this summer in order to win a world prize, a gold medal.
To achieve their goalthey must be physically fit.
What about us who love the Lord? What are we doing to achieve our goal? How are we preparing ourselves for our dream? Are we allowing things to hinder us? As Hebrews 12 v 1 says “let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”

What are some of the things that hinder us from being spiritually fit and achieving our goal? Lack of prayer, failure to read God’s Word regularly, strained relationships, emphasis on things? How disciplined are we in these areas?

The Olympic athletes focus on an event that will last for a few days, while we focus on a race that will last a lifetime. Be determined to finish well by being spiritually fit and keep our focus on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.
